PhD students join through the USM Biological Sciences Graduate Program. Apply through the program — if admitted, reach out directly to discuss joining the lab.

Undergraduates

Undergraduate Opportunities

Interested in joining? Start by emailing Dr. Rijal directly — positions are not always available, so please inquire before making any enrollment decisions.

1. Inquire first — Email Dr. Rijal to ask about open positions and discuss your interests.
2. If a position is available, enroll in BSC 492 (Special Problems in Biology, 1–3 credits) to conduct research for credit.
3. Honors Thesis — If you’re interested in BSC 492H, first confirm a position with Dr. Rijal, then contact the Honors College for enrollment requirements.
4. Additional opportunities — Consider applying to the INBRE Scholars Program or McNair Scholars Program for funded research support and mentorship.
